When I first joined POPSUGAR as Fitness editor in 2018, all the other editors were obsessed with APL sneakers. It didn’t take long for me to buy my own pair of TechLooms and see what all the fuss is about: they are so versatile, and perfect for cross-training, strength training, and just walking around the city. I now have three pairs of APL sneakers, and when Sweat announced a collab with trainer Kelsey Wells and APL, I started making room in my closet for a fourth pair.
This new sneaker is the APL TechLoom Tracer ($250), which is designed specifically for training. Since Wells’s workouts are focused on strength, including lifting weights and other dynamic movements to gain muscle and get stronger, it’s the perfect collaboration. Wells said in a press release that the silhouette of the Tracer is a functional shoe that has enough lateral support to train “safely and comfortably.”
Wells designed the colorful pattern on the shoe based on a recent painting she created, and each sneaker is slightly different so every customer will get a unique pair — no two pairs are the same. For Wells, this was personal.
“Our health is more than just physical; it encompasses our mental and emotional wellbeing as well,” Wells told POPSUGAR. “For me, painting is another tool that I use in addition to fitness for healing and self-care. Merging the two together for this shoe feels like the ultimate celebration of my personal health and fitness journey so far.” Scroll through to see photos of the latest Kelsey Wells x APL collab.
