I’m Your No. 1

The single is the first taste of Brat, the album Charli says she’s “always wanted to make”

Charli XCX and her bratty eye rolls can never be tamed.

On Thursday, the British pop star released the video for “Von Dutch,” the single she’s been teasing for weeks ahead of her long-anticipated dance music album, Brat, out this summer.

The Torso-directed video opens with the singer strutting through Paris’ Charles de Gaulle airport after escaping a group of paparazzi shoving microphones in her face. But when they catch up to her inside, things quickly escalate.

She ends up climbing into an airplane and destroying it while singing the track’s lyrics and pushing a cameraman down the aircraft’s stairs. The singer then dances and struts on the airplane’s wing while throwing punches. By the end, she’s lying on the luggage conveyor belt, staring deep into the camera.

The single release comes after she debuted it at a Boiler Room set in New York City last weekend. “I was born to make dance music.. I came from the clubs.. xcx6 is the album I’ve always wanted to make,” she tweeted about the album, titled Brat, several days ago.

On Wednesday, she revealed the album’s simple cover art: the word “brat” blurred atop a lime green backdrop. The album is set to be released this summer and has 15 songs, running at 41:23 minutes.

While Charli didn’t share any other details — including an exact release date or additional song titles — Brat is already available to preorder as a limited edition picture disc at the singer’s shop.

“Von Dutch” marks Charli XCX’s first single since her Barbie contribution “Speed Drive.” Brat is the follow-up to her criminally underrated album Crash, which dropped in 2022, featuring singles like “Constant Repeat,” “Good Ones,” and “Beg For You” with Rina Sawayama. A Rolling Stone review described Crash as the “glitziest, most maximalist version of Charli ever.”
