Ringo Starr Looks for the Bright Side on Single ‘February Sky’

Ringo Starr has released a new single, “February Sky,” along with a visualizer featuring never-before-seen clips from the musician’s archives. The uplifting song is the first listen from his forthcoming solo EP, Crooked Boy, which will be released on a limited-edition marble vinyl on April 20 for Record Store Day.

“Gonna stand up rise above the rain,” Starr sings on the track. “Start a revolution in these brighter days/ Found the missing pieces/ That were vacant to the eye/ Well I had enough of February sky.”

The EP was written and produced by Linda Perry for Starr, who added vocals and played drums on the tracks. Perry approached the former Beatles member about producing the EP after working with him on two prior songs, “Coming Undone” from his EP Change the World and “Everyone and Everything” from EP3.

“Linda made me a great EP — she produced it in her studio and then sent me the tracks and I added the drumming and my vocals,” Starr said in a statement. “’February Sky’ is great — very moody — but since Linda wrote these specifically for me it of course has to have a positive peace & love element.”

Fans can get an early listen to Crooked Boy at Amoeba Music Hollywood on April 18. The record store will sell an exclusive “February Sky” red vinyl 7-inch single during the event.

Starr will tour in North America with his All Starr Band this spring, including a series of shows at The Venetian in Las Vegas. Additional fall tour dates will be announced soon. Tickets are available via Starr’s website.

“I’ve always said I’m my happiest when I’m playing with great musicians — and this band is one of the very best,” Starr said when he announced the tour last year. “But even so, sometime during and just after every tour I think, OK that’s it — I’m going to stop touring. My family don’t believe me anymore and so it comes as no surprise to them that once again, I’m taking the All Starr Band back on the road!”
