I DARE Coaching Model By Steve BarrettI DARE: Coaching Through Change and Uncertainty to Help You Create Your Certainty.

In any given moment we have two options: to step forward into growth or step back into safety- Abraham Maslow

The only certainty in the world of business is uncertainty and the only constant is change!

The business cycle, from start-up, to growth, to maturity is a story of change and uncertainty.

The career journey, from promotion to changes in employer, changes in the team, changes in reporting lines, and changes in the systems in which you operate is a story of change and uncertainty.

Yesterday can never be repeated and tomorrow cannot be predicted.

Through the “I D.A.R.E” coaching model, I will help you embrace change and uncertainty.

My style of coaching has roots in positive psychology, cognitive behavioral coaching, and systemic coaching. Utilizing the CliftonStrengthsassessment (Gallup), taking a future-back, outside-in approach to goal setting (Peter Hawkins- Systemic Coaching), and looking for unhelpful or limiting thinking that is impacting feelings and behaviors.

My purpose is “To make things better.”

My intent is “To help you create your certainty.”

My Intention “To help you achieve your desired future state.”

My values are boldness, curiosity, optimism, authenticity, and support.

My top 5 CliftonStrengths are strategic, relator, Self-assurance, maximizer, and futuristic.

“I am an intuitive and authentic coach who is internally confident in an infectious way. Enthusiastic about the future, I help you to visualize the possibilities and discover your best route to achieve what matters to you. Together we will transform something great into something amazing.”

The I DARE Coaching Model

Identify:

I take time in establishing the agreement for our coaching partnership, using a future back, outside-in approach. By looking at your desired future state and by considering the views and needs of your stakeholders we will identify what you desire. By taking the future back approach at the identify stage, it results in more audacious goals and by considering outside factors, a deeper understanding and clarity of direction is achieved. We then seek to understand what is important about your goal, and what makes it urgent, and we gain clarity on how you will know when you have arrived at your desired destination. Moreover, this enables us to decide on the right coaching package for you- either six, nine, or twelve sessions and over what period to best serve your needs.

The identify stage must happen ahead of Discovery, as the insight from your CliftonStrengths Report should not influence your goals or objectives. Strengths give useful insight into the best “how” for you, they do not determine “what” you can do. Tackling the identify stage first ensures that goals are not restricted or influenced, thus reducing the risk of self-imposed limitations.

Discovery:

Utilizing the CliftonStrengths assessment (Gallup) you will identify your talents and begin to develop your strengths. You will begin by taking the CliftonStrengths assessment where you will discover your full CliftonStrengths 34 report. Once you have digested your report and considered what your most dominant strengths mean to you, we will have a one-hour discovery session (Session One) to help you “name it” (Gallup) and “claim it” (Gallup). I will help you to understand how your most powerful strengths show up and serve you; we will shine a light on your “blind spots” (Gallup) and discuss how you can manage your areas of lesser talent.

Following the discovery session, I will provide you with some tools to help you to utilize your strengths in your daily life, as people who have an opportunity to use their talents and strengths are 3x as likely to report having an excellent quality of life (Gallup).

The discovery from the CliftonStrengths assessment provides useful insight that we can draw upon and utilize in the coaching sessions that follow.

What will happen when we think about what is right with a people rather than fixating on what is wrong with them? – (Don Clifton)

Action:

You choose the goal for each session to move them closer toward your overall objective for the coaching engagement. Through powerful questions, active listening, shared observations, and intuition, I support you in identifying your real challenge.

My high-challenge support approach helps you to decide on the right actions for you, as who knows what’s right for you better than you do. (Paul Wilson)

Where appropriate, I help you to draw on the insights from your CliftonStrengths Report, to utilize your core strengths to support you in achieving your goals most naturally and effectively the way you “Aim it”(Gallup).

Re-Write Your Rules:

I help you to turn your session goals into reality, by raising new awareness, insights, and learnings and supporting you in applying them to other areas of life; this increases the impact of the coaching session beyond the session goal and helps you to start to re-write your rules.

By re-writing your unhelpful thinking, you can re-write your limiting beliefs, which will drive new behaviors and actions, propelling you towards your desired goals.

We will discuss the support you require, and we will identify any potential hurdles that could stand in your way so that you can map out your route to your desired destination.

Evolve:

Between sessions, you will apply your new rules, see through your actions, and actively apply your new insights and learnings. Furthermore, by looking for opportunities to apply your core strengths in daily situations, you will continue to evolve into the best version of yourself.

You will be encouraged to journal your experiences and I will be on hand to challenge and support you through your journey of evolution. At the start of each subsequent session, we will reflect on your experiences and celebrate your progress toward your overall goal and your successes along the way as you begin to evolve into the future, that you desired at the beginning of our partnership.

Beyond Individual Evolution

By integrating CliftonStrengths into the coaching model, the benefits run deeper than the insight it provides for the individual. To gain the full impact from this tool, you can explore the interplay of strengths between yourself and others within your organization and the system in which you live.

There are numerous opportunities and benefits that you can explore- The power of partnerships with people with different strengths. How to best lead another based on their strengths. How to best onboard a new member of the team. How a team can best function utilizing the strengths within that team, via “team grid” (Gallup). It also supports Diversity, Inclusion, and Belonging by providing a universal language that appreciates and embraces differences.

The systemic lens further enhances the potential future impact, by considering the difference that can be made to all the systems in which you exist, up to an ecological and environmental level.
