Our life is based on past experiences and potentially limiting beliefs. These beliefs may be ours or passed down to us by our parents or societies, and if we want to change them because they no longer serve us, then we must change how we perceive and feel about a situation or challenge. The way to do this is to shift our thoughts and feelings from a current undesirable situation to a new desired state of mind by Reframing Our Mindset.

We are the designers of our lives. Our thoughts and emotions affect our decisions and reshape our lives.

In my life, I have gone through many difficult situations personally and professionally. I grew up in a country at war, immigrated to another country at age 30, started from scratch, adapted to a new culture, experienced marriage/divorce, raising children, joy, anxiety, depression, running a business, employee issues, and sleepless nights. etc.

The Reframe the Mindset: It Was Very Heavy

What has helped me overcome adversity is continuing to believe that after each long night, the day will come, and each light will bring a new opportunity.

But how can I do this? 

The clear answer that came to my mind to reshape my life is, to reframe the way I think and deal with problems.

I could have stayed with a negative mentality towards the world and become a victim of my circumstances. But I decided to learn how to reframe my mindset by seeking knowledge and support.

Here are some examples of reframing your mindset.

From: I never do anything right.

To: I make mistakes sometimes, but I have also had many successes.                                                                                         

From: We can’t compete with them.

To: What makes us of unique value to our customers?  How can we leverage our strengths to serve our customers better than our competition?

From: Why doesn’t my partner ever plan our dates?

To: What might be their reasons for not planning our dates?

From: What if I don’t make any friends at university?

To: How can I meet new people and build friendships?

From: What if I don’t fit in?

To: How can I embrace my unique qualities and find my community?

As Wayne Dyer says in his book, The Power of Intention, “With everything that has happened to you, you can feel sorry for yourself or treat what has happened as a gift. Everything is either an opportunity to grow or an obstacle to keep you from growing. You get to choose.”
