Exhibition Getting More Christmas 2025 Presents As Sony Dates New Jack Black & Paul Rudd ‘Anaconda’

Christmas Day 2025 is bulking up in regards to product. In the wake of Lionsgate dating the Paul Feig directed Sydney Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried thriller, The Housemaid and A24 with their Timothee Chalamet ping-pong champ movie Marty Supreme, Sony is darting their reimagined comedy Anaconda starring Paul Rudd and Jack Black.

The movie is from director Tom Gormican.  Daniela Melchior also stars in the movie penned by The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent writers Tom Gormican and Kevin Etten. Brad Fuller and Andrew Form are producing through Fully Formed banner.

The original 1997 Anaconda starred Jennifer Lopez, Jon Voight, Owen Wilson and Ice Cube and followed a National Geographic-esque film crew that is taken hostage by an insane hunter, who forces them along on his quest to capture the world’s largest and deadliest snake, an anaconda. The movie grossed $65.9M domestic off a $16.6M opening and went on to make $136.9M worldwide. The movie was an early box office win for Lopez and Cube.

Also opening Christmas Day is Amazon MGM Studios’ Sarah’s Oil, an untitled Angel Studios movie and an untitled Universal event feature. All of this is opening post Disney/20th Century Studios’ big James Cameron threequel Avatar: Fire & Ash on Dec. 19 next year. Also on that pre-Christmas weekend is an untitled Warner Bros movie and an untitled SpongeBob Squarepants movie from Paramount.

Sony is going to keep a rally going from 2025 into 2026: Yesterday the Culver City lot dated the Nia DaCosta directed sequel 28 Days Later: The Bone Temple for a Jan. 16, 2026 release.
