“He’s a badass. He’s so cool. I love him,” Clarkson said of the Irish performer

Kelly Clarkson is starting 2025 by covering one of the biggest songs of 2024. On Tuesday, the talk show host performed a cover of Hozier‘s Unheard single, “Too Sweet,” during the Kellyoke segment of her talk show.

Wearing a black dress, and surrounded by My Band Y’all, Clarkson performed a cover of the track as she sang with a rocky, distorted vocal filter. “I think I’ll take my whiskey neat/My coffee black and my bed at three,” crooned Clarkson. “You’re too sweet for me.”

Clarkson praised the track and the Irish star behind it. “Hozier dropped that song last year, topping the charts worldwide. I love that song so much,” she said. “He’s a badass. He’s so cool. I love him.”

The Clarkson performance comes several weeks after Hozier performed the song on Saturday Night Live to close the year. “Too Sweet” became Hozier’s first Hot 100 Number One, more than a decade after “Take Me to Church” reached Number 2 on the chart.

When speaking to Rolling Stone in August, Hozier revealed that he almost didn’t release “Too Sweet.” Although he recorded song while making Unreal Unearth, he ended up leaving it off the album. “Maybe it’s the pessimist in me,” he said. “I was like, ‘People don’t want to hear this stuff, we’ll just put it away.’ ” However, he later added the track on the Unheard EP, together with three other vaulted recordings.

Clarkson ended 2024 by covering Chappell Roan’s “Pink Pony Club” and Sabrina Carpenter’s “Please Please Please.” She also performed numerous Christmas carols, including “Sweet December” and “Run Run Rudolph,” all December.
