Taylor Hunt is an international yoga teacher, author, and advocate for recovery. His journey has been shaped by struggle, discipline, and a deep commitment to helping others. Through Ashtanga yoga, he has not only transformed his own life but also provided a path for others seeking healing and change.

A WAY FROM DARKNESS

Taylor grew up in Dublin, Ohio. His early life was marked by addiction, but his story did not end there. After years of struggle, he found a way out through sobriety and yoga. Now, with 19 years of sobriety, he dedicates his time to sharing his experiences and guiding others.

“I was completely lost,” Taylor says. “Yoga gave me structure, purpose, and a way to rebuild my life.”

His book, A Way From Darkness, tells his story of addiction, recovery, and transformation through yoga. It has given him the opportunity to travel, speak, and inspire others facing similar struggles.

THE PRACTICE OF ASHTANGA YOGA

Taylor is a devoted Ashtanga yoga practitioner. He makes yearly trips to Mysore, India, to study under his teacher, Sharath Jois. In 2013, he was granted Level 2 Authorization to teach, a significant milestone in the traditional Ashtanga system. He has also assisted in the shala, deepening his understanding of the practice.

“Ashtanga is more than just physical postures,” Taylor explains. “It’s a daily practice of discipline and self-discovery. It challenges you and forces you to grow.”

He teaches daily Mysore classes at Ashtanga Yoga Columbus and offers workshops around the world. His approach preserves the traditional method while making it accessible to students from all backgrounds.

GIVING BACK THROUGH THE TRINI FOUNDATION

Beyond teaching, Taylor is the founder and director of the Trini Foundation. This non-profit organization brings the healing power of yoga to people recovering from addiction. The foundation provides scholarships for yoga classes and creates supportive communities for those in recovery.

“We want to make yoga available to people who need it the most,” Taylor says. “The practice helped save my life, and I want to share that with others.”

Through donations and community support, the Trini Foundation helps individuals build stability and strength on their recovery journey.

BUILDING A COMMUNITY

Taylor’s impact extends beyond the yoga mat. He owns Ashtanga Yoga Savannah and has also started One Percent Theory, a t-shirt company that supports his mission. His goal is to build a strong, supportive yoga community where people can heal and grow together.

“My job is to help as many people as I can,” he says. “Whether it’s through teaching, writing, or the foundation, I just want to give back.”

His story is a powerful reminder that transformation is possible. Through dedication, service, and the ancient practice of Ashtanga yoga, Taylor Hunt continues to change lives—one breath, one movement, and one person at a time.
