I’ve Used This Meditation Cushion For 9 Months, and I Feel the Difference in My Body and Mind

At the beginning of the year, I decided to meditate once a day day, every day, for all 365 days of 2021. I had never meditated consistently before, so let’s just say the learning curve was steep. One thing I quickly realized is that sitting on the ground for 10 to 20 minutes at a time is less than ideally comfortable, and that it gets tough to let go of thoughts and distractions with both feet falling asleep and tingling like pin cushions.

Until that point, I’d been sitting on throw pillows or just on my regular carpet, and found it all kinds of uncomfortable for not only my feet, but my butt and hips as well. It was fine last year, when I was meditating once or twice a week at most, but I knew I’d have to find a way to make meditation more comfortable if I wanted to do it every day. So when I got the chance to try out the Sedona Crescent Meditation Cushion ($25) from Retrospec, I said “yes” and “please.” I’ve used it for almost every morning meditation over the last 9 months, and it’s made my routine distinctly more comfortable and relaxing.

What I love about this small, kidney bean-shaped pillow is that it’s cushiony but solid enough to give me support, unlike the pillows I’d just sink straight into or the ground that had no buffer. This pillow is stuffed with buckwheat and you can actually adjust the density to get to your perfect balance of soft and hard; you just unzip the outer and inner layers and remove a few handfuls of stuffing from the core. The outer layer is made of durable cotton and is machine-washable as well.

Having tried a few different seating surfaces for my meditations, using this cushion has definitely been the most convenient and comfortable. The extra inches of height keep my feet and lower legs from getting too tingly, while the supportive cushiness helps me maintain my posture while I meditate. It’s legitimately helped me get the most out of my meditation practice, because the less I have to stress about my physical comfort, the easier I find it to get into a good mindset for meditation.

If you’re looking to make meditation part of your regular routine, this cushion might be worth the investment. It’s adjustable, cushy, and supportive — both to your body and your meditating mind.
