Broadway seemed to take a breath last week before as it eyes the fall season, with box office for the second full week of August dipping about 9% from the previous week.

In all, the 25 shows grossed $28,132,262 for the week ending August 18. Though down from the previous week, when Illinoise was still on the chart and grossed a big $1,167,159 in its final week. Even with the slightly slimmer roster, the attendance figure for last week was a full 9% greater than the same week last season.

All but five of the 25 productions on the roster reported box office drops, the five trend-buckers being the ever-popular Moulin Rouge! (up $4,485 to $1,220,778), the summer’s hot tickets Oh, Mary! (up $12,699 to $1,056,794, a Lyceum house record) and Cabaret (up $16,523 to $1,520,726), the steady-marching Suffs up $6,523 to $713,408), and, with the biggest increase in receipts, The Wiz, closing its hugely popular limited run with a jump of $261,849 to $1,945,288.

The week’s sell-outs were Hadestown, Oh, Mary!, Once Upon a Time Mattress (taking in $668,532 for its opening week), Stereophonic, The Outsiders and The Wiz.

Total attendance for the week’s 25-show line-up was 225,384, down 7% from the previous week but up 6% year-over-year. About 92% of all available seats were filled.

Season to date, Broadway, in the 13th week of the 2024-25 season, has grossed $428,075,221 up 7% over last year at this time, with total attendance of 3,390,052 up about 4%.
