From Detroit roots to Inglewood pride, Nehru’s new single “LA” doubles as a West Coast love letter and a unity anthem.

The Breakout

Nehru’s “LA” arrives with the ease of a summer slapper and the weight of a lifetime—melding Detroit toughness with California cool in a track built for windows-down cruises and block-party energy.

Origins: Detroit Beginnings to West Coast Vibes

“My parents were the gateway to music,” Nehru recalled. “My father played piano, guitar, and congas—music was a constant in our home. And my mother? She turned Soul Train into a Saturday morning ritual, blasting funk, soul, and groove classics throughout the house.”

Born in Detroit and steeped in East Coast Hip Hop, Nehru’s first brush with West Coast sound felt like destiny. “Ironically,” he added, “my first vinyl was Eazy-Duz-It by Eazy-E, and after moving to California, the first tape I bought was King of Rock by Run DMC.” Those contrasts became the blueprint of his musical identity.

Standing Up for California

The single “LA” was born from love and frustration. “A lot of folks were trolling the city, the state, the coast. I had to speak on it, but not through outrage. I wanted to tell the real story—our story.”

“It’s a culturally driven song,” Nehru said, “dedicated to residents and anyone who relates to our outlets of expression—through music, cars, fashion, or love.” His goal: “shift the narrative and create something that truly reflects the heartbeat of Los Angeles.”

The Creative Spark and Collaborative Flow

Digging through a folder of unused beats led to a production by Blacktoven. “He always got heat. But this one? This one was different.”

“Even though people often say I sound undeniably West Coast, I hadn’t yet leaned into making an official West Coast anthem. This felt like the perfect time.”

Nehru wrote and recorded his verses in three days. Within another three, vocalist Jay R Reed delivered the hook that anchored the record’s emotional center. A week of mixing, another of mastering, and three more for visuals—“Everything just fell into place organically,” he noted.

Inglewood Roots, Lifelong Ties

After moving from Detroit, Nehru’s family settled across Los Angeles before landing in Inglewood—still the compass point of his life and work. “From elementary through high school, Inglewood was home. Writing a song about it was easy—I never really left.”

He still runs a small business in the neighborhood and keeps friendships that trace back to childhood. “The song ‘LA’ is personal. It’s a part of my story and a soundtrack to the city that shaped me.”

West Coast Energy for Every Season

“LA” is laid-back yet infectious, nostalgic but contemporary—music for cruising, functions, and anyone who knows the vibe. And it’s just the beginning. “By the time the journey with Nehru is done, there’ll be something for every emotion, every season, and every soul.”

“At a time when music can sometimes lack substance and unity, LA brings back that communal spirit.”
