When it comes to the people he cares about, Kelly Severide will always go the extra mile on Chicago Fire.

So, it’s not that surprising to see that he could end up taking matters into his own hands on Chicago Fire Season 14 Episode 9.

After returning from winter break, we learned that Van Meter’s life is on the line and that Severide wants answers.

The problem is that CPD has taken over the case, and now Severide needs to work it behind the scenes, and that could land him in a lot of trouble.

Severide Will Make Them Pay

The Chicago Fire Season 14 Episode 9 promo has us worried, making it clear that Severide isn’t backing off the case.

He wants to get ot the bottom of who attempted to kill Principal Cole, leading to Van Meter’s smoke inhalation and burns.

With Cruz’s help, Severide is reviewing some old records, and it looks like they may have a suspect.

Now with that, Severide says he will “make them pay,” which means he’s taking matters into his own hands.

We saw him react to Wyatt’s father on Chicago Fire Season 14 Episode 8, making it clear that his emotions are getting the best of him.

Could he cross a line that sees him arrested? That’s what we’re concerned about.

Surely Cruz wouldn’t allow Severide to do something that he’d regret, though, right?

It is good to see that Cruz is back in the episode after being absent from Chicago Fire Season 14 Episode 8. It looks like he’s ready to get back to work after his anniversary weekend.

As for the synopsis, it doesn’t give much more information about his or the rest of Firehouse 51’s involvement in Severide’s investigation, but we do know that Van Meter’s life is on the line.

He’s mentioned as a member of the Firehouse 51 family, which he is.

There’s no doubt that others have trusted him, especially just recently, when it came to finding the source of Herrmann’s house fire.

However, the episode’s images give us a brief glimpse of one of the calls, which appears to involve a car accident.

There are also images of Pascal, Mouch, and others, suggesting the fight to save Engine 51 from decommissioning continues.

Heading Back to the Scene

Before they jump to any conclusions, Severide and Cruz are heading back to the apartment.

They need to gather evidence. That is the first rule of an arson investigation.

Considering Cole was the one targeted, and the apartment stairwell is where the fire was set, it would make sense to start the search there.

However, did anyone else feel like that fire spread around the apartment a little too fast?

Sure, fires will take in any fuel they can, but we’ve seen firefighters on Chicago Fire have more time to get people out of burning buildings.

Is it possible there was an accelerant somewhere else in the apartment? Is that why Severide has realized that this is actually a crime of passion?

Let’s not overlook those words, either.

A “crime of passion” would suggest that there was some sort of relationship going on, so did Cole have a relationship with someone in the school?

Lily comes to mind, as Cole was far too quick to defend her when her name came up, and she is certainly hiding something with her attitude.

It’s possible that Cole was trying to call it off, and Lily ended up taking matters into her own hands.

However, she’s been ruled out, and it did look like Wyatt’s dad was running from the apartment building.

Is he the one who is in a relationship with Lily and has decided to take matters into his own hands, knowing how much the students hate Cole?
