Why The International School Of Florence Is Good

In our series of international schools in Italy, our next pick is the International School of Florence (ISF). The school promises an academic journey of excellence and opportunities manifesting in multi-faceted school-sponsored programs and facilities. For a truly global learning ecosystem, ISF is a solid option.

Many ex-pats in Italy prefer international schools for their universality, globally-relevant curriculum, and diverse student & faculty body. And ISF boasts of a healthy and supportive framework for the needs of children and parents, especially ex-pats. In case you’re interested in ISF, here’s a list of pointers that tell you why ISF is good for your child.

  1. An Introduction to ISF

Before anything else, let’s have a little introduction to the school. ISF was founded way back in 1952. Over the years, it expanded its grounds and academic organization and currently operates from two campuses.

As per its website, the school has a total enrollment of more than 570, which comprise students from more than 38 countries. A group of highly talented and reputed faculty members are employed to support the diverse needs of students.

The school has tied up with prestigious universities and institutes for international exposure. Two notable mentioned are Princeton University and Pratt Institute.

  1. Academic Programs

The following are the various programs in the academic structure of the ISF:

    • Early Years: ISF is an IB school and administers Early Years education through IB Primary Years Programme (IB PYP).
    • Junior School: From Grade 1 to Grade 5, ISF manages the Junior School. The IB PYP curriculum is applicable at this stage.
    • Middle School: In Middle School, children between 11 and 14 are enrolled and engaged in interdisciplinary education. Preparatory support for the Licenza Media exam is also provided.
    • High School: From Grades 9 to 10, students are involved in various programs. For instance, students in grades 11 and 12 prepare for the IB Diploma Programme (DP) necessary for university admissions.
  1. Emphasis on creative and physical education

For holistic growth, ISF allows students to participate in creative and sports programs. Multiple courses are operating in these areas. In the creative area, students can attend arts, music, drama, and theater classes. Students keen on sports and physical education can participate in competitive sports, sign up for trips including rafting and indoor climbing, and oversee sports through the Sports Council.

  1. Admission Process

You should note a few things about the admission process at ISF:

    • The admission process usually commences in October and continues until February.
    • The application process is online.
    • When you apply, you must submit a set of supporting documents.
    • These documents include vaccination records, handwritten student autobiography, recommendation letters, copies of passport and report cards, passport-size photos, and teacher reference forms.
    • The admissions committee is the decision-making authority and communicates its decisions between February and March.
    • It is important to note that an entrance fee is charged fifteen days following the reception of the official acceptance letter. This fee is in addition to the tuition fees.
