RiRi’s Savage X Fenty maternity line proves once again that new and expecting mothers can dress however they please.

Rihanna, queen of pregnancy fashion herself, is pushing the maternity wear game forward, proving once again that maternity lingerie can be sexy, functional and comfortable all at the same time, with her latest collection for Savage X Fenty.

In a series of Instagram posts shared by the @savagexfenty account on August 8, Rihanna, who’s currently expecting her second child with A$AP Rocky, is all smiles modelling the capsule’s black nursing bra while breastfeeding her son RZA. Of course, Rihanna isn’t the only one modelling Savage X Fenty in the post — her baby boy sports a pair of black shorts covered in the brand’s logo in an adorable mother-son matching moment.

“Not your mama’s maternity bras… designed by @badgirlriri, approved by baby RZA 🫶🏾 #SavageXMaternity,” read the caption of the announcement post.

Fans shared their enthusiasm for the surprise drop in the post’s comment section, praising Rihanna for her latest lingerie designs. “I remember in 2020 when I was breastfeeding I was like damn Riri needs to sell us fashionable maternity bras 😩. Now I need another baby,” commented one particularly enthusiastic fan.

The 35-year-old singer has been synonymous with stellar maternity style ever since her first pregnancy back in 2022 and this capsule collection further proves that the star isn’t afraid to challenge the norms of “traditional” maternity wear.

While maternity bras are often primarily focused on comfort and functionality, this collection promises all that and more with designs the brand says are both “sexy and supportive.” And, from the strappy, lacy and pastel-coloured bralettes that are already available online, it seems like the line is living up to its claims.

“The new maternity capsule is about bringing that confidence and comfort to moms at every stage of their journeys,” said the singer in a news release. “I want to remind people that you can still channel sexiness and feel-good while being a parent.”

The collection, which comes in sizes XS-4X, falls in line with the brand’s previous inclusive lines and its promise to embody “fearlessness, confidence and inclusivity” with their “styles made for everyBODY.”

Whether she was performing at the Oscars or having a night out, RiRi has consistently wowed in every new maternity outfit she’s sported since her first pregnancy. By wearing pieces not usually seen on expecting mothers, such as bra tops, tight mini-dresses, and pieces with strategic cutouts and sheer fabrics that expose her baby bump, Rihanna has ushered in a new trend of maternity dressing that empowers expecting mothers to embrace feeling sexy and wear what they want, regardless of society’s traditional (and sometimes subconscious) belief that pregnant people should dress conservatively.

As she’s demonstrated with her boundary-defying looks throughout both pregnancies, Rihanna chooses to highlight her bumps as a way to celebrate the joys of pregnancy and motherhood. This bold profession of love has even inspired other expecting mothers on TikTok to try replicating some of her iconic maternity looks.

“When I found out I was pregnant, I thought to myself, ‘There’s no way I’m going to go shopping in no maternity aisle. I’m sorry — it’s too much fun to get dressed up,’” she said as she graced the cover of Vogue‘s May 2022 issue.

Since then, Rihanna has not only stayed true to her fashionable self but has inspired countless others to look at maternity style through a more liberated, and hopefully less judgemental, lens. And, with baby number two still on the way, we can’t wait to see what jaw-dropping looks pregnant RiRi pulls out of her closet next.
