During Billie Eilish’s show at London’s Electric Ballroom on Tuesday, the singer brought out Labrinth and Boygenius as her surprise guests.
Eilish performed “When the Party’s Over” with the trio, and “Never Felt So Alone” with Labrinth, their haunting collaboration that released in April.
The singer announced the London gig on Saturday via Instagram stories, after headlining Leeds Festival the day before. “London doing a special lil performance for you,” Eilish wrote in her post.
On Saturday, Eilish and her brother Finneas reportedly treated those in attendance to fan favorites including “Bad Guy” and “Therefore I Am.”
In the two years since releasing Happier Than Ever, Eilish has been touring and releasing new work. Last July, she dropped the two-track Guitar Songs EP, featuring “TV” and “The 30th.” In July, she contributed “What Was I Made For?” to the Barbie soundtrack. Her accompanying self-directed video for the track features Eilish going through Barbie clothes based on her own red carpet-outfits, soon the wind and rain force her to pack up and leave.
The pop star recently opened up about how her music-making process has shifted post-Happier Than Ever in an interview on Dua Lipa’s At Your Service podcast.
“Everything is different about it,” Eilish told Lipa. “I’ve been trying to compare recently, just because I’m getting used to doing it in a different way. And trying to be like, ‘It’s OK to do that. I’m ok. I’m still able to do that; I’m capable still.’”
Much of her 2021 album was made in the basement studio her brother built in his home, and Eilish said she and Finneas came out of the album certain they’d finally cracked the code.
“We were like, ‘We’ve got it all figured out, this is how we’re going to do it from now on, and it works really well,’” Eilish said “And, you know, touring for a year-and-a-half, then coming back to it, and being way older — and not even much older, but again, the jump between 18 and 21 is a big jump. Just mentally and physically, and realistically. It’s just been completely different.”
