Issa Rae’s Max series Rap Sh!t is returning for its second season on Nov. 9, but its soundtrack, Rap Sh!t S2: The Mixtape, will drop earlier on Nov. 3. The collection of songs will be released via Rae’s label Raedio and Def Jam and has been previewed by Sexyy Redd’s single “No Panties.”

“I’m happy that I got to work on ‘No Panties’ for Rap Sh!t,” Red said in a statement. “It’s just me having fun on the beat and talking my shit. It’s just like the show: The rap girls running this shit.”

Rap Sh!t S2: The Mixtape will feature a mix of original music created for the series and performed by lead characters Shawna (Aida Osman) and Mia (KaMillion), and new songs by Rico Nasty, Kali, Maiya the Don, Enchanting, Cam & China, and more.

The first two episodes of Rap Sh!t‘s second season will premiere Nov. 9 on Max. The series was originally slated for an Aug. 10 debut, but was postponed due to the WGA and SAG strikes.

Rap Sh!t initially premiered last July. It was created by Rae and follows a pair of former high-school classmates who drifted apart and are now reconnecting in their twenties to form a rap duo. Rae executive produced Rap Sh!t with showrunner Syreeta Singleton, who worked as a writer on Insecure

Since Insecure came to a close after a five-year run, Rae has shifted her focus to developing more projects under her production company Hoorae, spanning from film and television to music and events.

With Rap Sh!t being rooted in a story of hip-hop, the series has given Rae a chance to further explore the overlap between the music industry and the film/television industry. Her audio content company Raedio leads on the music supervision.

“I guess I feel more empowered in the film and television industry,” Rae told Rolling Stone in a cover story in 2021. “We have our own problems, but it is nothing like the music industry. I’m in awe every single day of just, ‘Y’all can do this? This can happen, and it’s still going to happen?’ I have a lot of catching up to do. That feels exhausting in a different way.”
