Drake Passes the Torch to His Son Adonis With ‘My Man Freestyle’

Like Father Like Son

The six-year-old was previously featured rapping a portion of the freestyle on the outro for “Daylight” from Drake’s latest album For All the Dogs

Drake‘s son Adonis is sending warning shots to all the other kids on the playground with “My Man Freestyle.” On the extended edition of his outro for “Daylight” from the rapper’s latest album For All the Dogs, the six-year-old builds on his original refrain: “Don’t talk to my man like that/I like it when you like it.”

In the accompanying video for the song, Adonis makes it clear that he doesn’t have time to tell you twice — he’s very busy, actually. “I was waiting for this moment to arrive/I was driving in the car and I mash my car/ I was playing on my iPad and I broke my iPad,” he raps. “I am going to my house, see my dad/I am saying hi to my dad and I have to go change/I’m playing basketball.”

Between breaking his iPad and giving pep talks to his teammates before they hit the court Adonis barely even has time for Drake, who pops up only a few times throughout the visual. “When we’re ready to go play, we just have to work harder, we have to shoot better, we have to play better,” he instructs them as both coach and player. “Get your energy up. If he’s taking the ball that way, but he’s tricking you, just go that way and trick him. Your body has to reflex the dogs, and then the dogs have to reflex your body.”

So true, Adonis.

“Happy birthday my son,” Drake captioned his Instagram post about the freestyle. The rapper’s own birthday is next week; he’ll be 37. For All the Dogs marked his eighth studio album. Adonis designed the studio art for the record and doodled some replicas on a whiteboard in the “My Man Freestyle” video.
