Behind the Scenes with Summer Helene, Baroness Morris of Ayrshire and Glenlyon, and Bear Fiorda welcomed Jacob “Stitch” Duran, one of the most respected and recognizable figures in combat sports history, for an exclusive interview, now available worldwide.
For more than three decades, Duran has worked the corners of boxing and mixed martial arts’ greatest champions, earning a reputation as the most famous professional cutman in combat sports. His expertise in treating cuts, controlling swelling, wrapping hands, and keeping fighters safely in competition has made him an indispensable part of championship boxing, MMA, kickboxing, and bare knuckle fighting.
Throughout his remarkable career, Duran has worked alongside some of the biggest names in combat sports, including Tyson Fury, Manny Pacquiao, Bernard Hopkins, Andre Ward, Deontay Wilder, Chuck Liddell, Georges St-Pierre, Anderson Silva, Randy Couture, Cain Velasquez, and countless other world champions.
A longtime fixture of the UFC during the organization’s rise to global prominence, Duran has also worked with Bellator, the Professional Fighters League (PFL), World Series of Fighting, BKFC, and major boxing promotions around the world. His expertise has also reached Hollywood, appearing in Rocky Balboa, Creed, Creed II, and Here Comes the Boom. Working alongside stars including Sylvester Stallone and Michael B. Jordan, Duran brought the authenticity of a real cutman to some of Hollywood’s most celebrated boxing films.

During the interview, Duran discussed his memoir, From the Fields to the Garden: The Life of “Stitch” Duran, co-authored with Zac Robinson and published by Black Mesa Publishing. The book chronicles his extraordinary journey from growing up in a migrant labor camp picking cotton and fruit in California to serving in the United States Air Force in Thailand before becoming one of the most respected cutmen in the history of combat sports.
The memoir takes readers behind the scenes of some of the sport’s most unforgettable moments, including UFC 38, the first season finale of The Ultimate Fighter, PRIDE Fighting Championships, and championship bouts featuring Chuck Liddell, Randy Couture, Georges St-Pierre, Fedor Emelianenko, Wladimir Klitschko, Tito Ortiz, Mike Tyson, Bob Sapp, and many others. As the book reminds readers, wherever combat sports history was being made, “Stitch was there.”
Duran also shared details about his upcoming documentary, Stitch: From the Fields to the Garden, currently in production. The film will explore his remarkable journey from California’s agricultural fields to Madison Square Garden and the world’s biggest combat sports stages, highlighting the fighters, friendships, and defining moments that shaped one of the sport’s most remarkable careers.
Known for his philosophy, “My job is to give them one more round,” Duran reflected on fighter safety, the evolution of the cutman’s role, his relationships with generations of world champions, and the lessons learned from spending decades in the corners of the sport’s greatest athletes.
