Netflix’s new InstaDocs series is living up to its name — just weeks after the Jane Doe Cornell University case exploded into the public dialogue about sexual assault, the new doc Jane Doe v. Cornell will begin streaming tomorrow, Thursday, October 29.
The InstaDoc follows “the explosive lawsuit brought by Jane Doe — the former Cornell University student who alleges she was drugged and raped at the school’s Chi Phi fraternity house in October 2024,” Netflix said in its announcement, noting that the case “has sparked widespread protests and a fervent national debate about how colleges handle sexual assault.”
The doc includes firsthand accounts from the editors of the student newspaper The Cornell Daily Sun, editor-in-chief Sophia Dasser and senior editor Cereese Qusba, as well as New York Governor Kathy Hochul, and Jane Doe’s attorney, Thomas Giuffra.
“My first reaction was… how disgusting,” Hochul says in the trailer for the doc, below.
Other participants include Amanda Walsh, deputy director of the Victims Rights Law Center and a former Title IX coordinator at Brown University; a former Cornell fraternity president, and a recent Cornell graduate who went through the Title IX process.
Netrlix says the doc “examines the often-flawed systems that investigate student sexual assault claims. These include campus police and Title IX, the process for reporting sexual misconduct at most U.S. universities.”
“Generations of students have turned to these systems for protection and due process. Jane Doe tried both, and the outcry over her case has pressed the question: are they delivering on that promise?” the streamer’s news release asks.
