Tracey Spiridakos fans will be thrilled to learn that this beloved actress is finally getting to lead her own project again.

And Spiridakos is fantastic. Additionally, those who remember just how incredible it was when USA Network had scripted programming, especially during the summer, will be absolutely ecstatic, too!

Anna Pigeon combines all the things that work about television, and we’re already counting down the days until it makes its debut.

If you know anything about our work, then you’ll know how many of us obsessed over USA Network shows.

Before most of them found a new audience and popularity on Netflix a decade later (shoutout to Suits), we were glued to the screens faithfully year-round.

We especially did during the summer for a slate of Blue Sky programming that was truly special and unique to the network.

After a long break from the game, USA Network is back to delivering scripted content, and they’ve already proven with The Rainmaker that they know what works best.

There seems to be an endless stream of book-to-screen adaptations across networks and streaming. And some of them are great, and others miss the mark, but regardless, they’re always a risk worth taking.

We saw that with The Rainmaker, which was such a fantastic hit, and it delivered on something many of us were craving: weekly scripted content worth tuning in to during the summer.

It’s a time of year when most networks have all but given up on scripted shows and bog us down with reality television and game shows to carry us over into the Fall (or, hell, these days, it seems like the winter).

If The Rainmaker was the hit that carried us through last summer, Anna Pigeon can pique our interest when it debuts on August 7.

It’s another series that’s inspired by books, these by Nevada Barr.

So we already got a book-to-screen adaptation, a recognizable, talented actress who can carry the show, and some familiar supporting stars like Tricia Helfer who can light up the screen, too.

The trailer teases the procedural element that always seems to work, but with a bit of edge, humor, and a different type of cop scenario that feels different than the usual form.

Our trailer? It teases Anna Pigeon giving up her life in the city for peace, quiet, and an escape from her demons by becoming a park ranger in the wilderness.

She returns to a place that has always made her happy, her voiceover describing it as a place where she can hide and feel safe.

But to her sister, a gorgeous straightshooter shrink in the city, Anna is just running away from her problems and not taking the advice that her therapist had in mind.

The problem, however, is that now Anna is at the fifth park in three years, which means something about our girl isn’t gelling well with those around her. But that’s what’ll make her fun, right?

Meanwhile, Anna? We hear her voiceover saying that “Nature can hide dark secrets. It’s my job to unearth them.”

And based on the trailer, Anna takes that job seriously because my goodness, there is a lot of crime, violence, drama, and mystery threaded throughout this trailer!

Dead bodies. Molotov cocktails were thrown through the windows of the station. Anna is in a ditch. Yeah, there’s no shortage of drama and thrills.

We’ll just have to hope they haven’t teased all the good stuff in the trailer, and they’re saving some of it to surprise us.

It looks like we have a murder, and a local wealthy businessman named Jeremy Paulson, who may have a connection to it.

And Anna is about to be the thorn in his side as she looks into the case despite being a “tree cop,” as they call her.

For Paulson, it’s a “Pigeon Problem,” but it’s our solution to a deep craving we’ve had, and Anna Pigeon is more than welcome on our screens!

It looks like, across 10 glorious episodes, we’ll get a murder mystery and a woman who’s trying to get a fresh start after losing her husband, and she intends to solve it.

A woman seeking a new purpose after a loss can make for some great television, and Spiridakos can bring many layers to a character.

Anna also looks like a bit of a badass, or at least scrappy. The mysterious death of her husband with no answers haunts her, but she also has a great deal of humor, too.

It’s the humor that’s the secret ingredient that makes shows like this work, even if the content veers into darkness.

With most of the scripted content of our trusty procurements we know and love going on hiatus until Fall or even Winter, Anna Pigeon hitting the airwaves couldn’t come at a better time.

And it certainly has us excited, but we’d love to hear how you feel about it.

So check out the trailer and sound off below!

Anna Pigeon will premiere on Friday, August 7, at 10/9c on USA Network.
