The song comes off the group’s most recent album, Prizefighter

Mumford & Sons appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live! to perform their recent song “Here.” The British rock band was joined by Chris Thile, who took over Chris Stapleton’s vocal part from the recorded version of the track.

“Here” comes off Mumford & Sons’ sixth album, Prizefighter, which arrived in February. The LP was co-produced and co-written with the National’s Aaron Dessner, and features collaborations with Stapleton, Hozier, Gracie Abrams, Brandi Carlile, and Gigi Perez. Since its release, the band has performed on Saturday Night Live and toured extensively.

Frontman Marcus Mumford sat down with host Jimmy Kimmel to discuss the album and its collaborations, as well as being a Disney adult and going to Disneyland solo.

“It was mostly relationship-based,” Mumford explained of how the band got so many musicians involved in Prizefighter. “Although Chris Stapleton I just cold-called because I love him. I think he’s a generational talent and I’m just a fangirl. So I called him up and he was so sweet. We talked for like an hour about family and work and then eventually I popped the question he said yes.”

He added that Carlile texted him lyrics she came up with in a dream. Those lyrics became “Rubber Band Man,” which features Hozier. “Most of my text messages don’t rhyme and this one did,” Mumford noted.

Kimmel asked if the musician regularly receives lyrics via text. “I’ve not made myself available in that way to people,” he replied. “Brandi is basically the only one. Brandi and my bandmates.”
